Is a reddit post about a dozen or so people credible enough/impactful enough to warrant the post/title?

Not exactly the thoroughly researched, nationwide impact. This seems more like 1 disgruntled person's opinion?

Could this be an indicator of a more widespread practice? Or is it likely that Intel is unique here?

They're also wrong in suggesting that J-1 visas are intended to just be used for "cultural exchange". They are quite explicitly intended for use by trainees[1]. I assume these folks are intended to be trained in New Mexico so they can ramp the advanced packaging fab in Malaysia when they need to.

H1B numbers are public, it's a widespread issue in F100.

Yep, but it is a side effect of the skills and wage gap.

Packaging and Chip Design is high skill work (usually requires a bachelors degree) but low margins so wages tend to be at the lower end because much of the talent for both is in Asia and Israel.

Very anecdotal post, with many misunderstandings.

> Are your class mates also masters students or undergrads. For whatever reason.. Intel and lot of fab related companies think doing Doe and troubleshooting recipe requires masters and PhD... And not even masters or phds related to semiconductors... Anything will do .. perhaps because fabrication is more material science, mechanical , electrical and chemistry

This is a problem I noticed before specifically in more scientific fields. The qualification bar for basically every job is super high, even if the job can be done with a undergrad level of knowledge + some training.

And maybe they’re right. Maybe, you do need to be basically a physics PhD. Or maybe it’s just credential inflation.

But man this country is fucked when the average citizen is capable of undergrad level education, but all the jobs require intense, expensive education and domain knowledge.
