I’m a product designer with a passion for crafting user experiences that are not just visually appealing but also intuitive and enjoyable to use. Whether it’s a simple app or a complex business solution, I specialize in designing data-heavy interfaces that turn intricate information into clean, user-friendly designs.

I’m dedicated to seeing projects through from the first brainstorming session to the final launch. I love taking on complex challenges and transforming them into elegant, easy-to-use solutions. My approach is hands-on and detail-oriented: I dive deep into planning, create detailed prototypes, and ensure every pixel is in the right place before a product goes out the door. I believe in the power of data-driven design, but I also never forget the importance of making products that users will love.

Hi, I’m Romain.

I recently finished my stint as a Ruby on Rails backend developer at [Barnardo’s](https://www.barnardos.org.uk/). I was a backend developer instrumental in the development of Journey, a platform that helps young people leaving the care system plan their progression to independence and puts them in control of their progress. I was involved in its technical development from `rails new`.

Ideally I’d like to stay in the charity / tech for good area but I’m also open minded to work on something new. I love to learn and am quick to pick up new skills.

I'm looking forward to tackling new and exciting challenges.

I'm Mark, I've over 20 years industry experience working with all sorts, from startups to household names to solo entrepreneurs. I live semi off-grid (with electricity and internet of course!) in my touring caravan, currently in South Wales.

Although I love coding, I understand that soft skills are essential. Communication: to help convert ideas from a person's head into something which can be structured as code, and to properly manage expectations. To prioritise rationally. To raise issues when they become significant, not leave them to the last minute and cause panic.

Although I prefer Linux, I'm comfortable with Windows/Android/MacOS/iOS and maintain at least 1 working device for each of those OSes (so on multi-platform projects I can test on the real thing).

I'm particularly into repairability and getting the most out of cheaper, lower-powered devices.

I'm looking for short-term, full-time projects, or longer part-time commitments (eg 1-2 days a week, few hours a month on retainer) but am open to other ideas.

I am a hands-on generalist developer. Co-founded blockchain analytics startup, built backend/infra up from zero. Also worked in gamedev (industry and indie) as graphics/engine programmer. Participated in competitive programming in the past (two-time ICPC finalist) and present (Kazakhstan's 2024 finals). The best fit is a tech co-founder/early employee role at a frugal startup - love to wear all the hats at once.

At this time I am specifically looking for offline/hybrid opportunities with relocation/visa support. Starting remotely is fine, but permanently remote position is probably not wanted, unless for some unique opportunity - while I enjoy working from a comfort of my room, working remotely across country borders was isolating.

Location: EU Remote: Yes, EU timezones preferred

Willing to relocate: Depends on the location (but with a strong bias for EU-Schengen/US locations)

Technologies: Java, Python (and variants thereof like Groovy, Clojure, Pypy), Node/TS | AWS/Lambda Serverless, GCE/Kubernetes | Redis, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB

Resume: https://bit.ly/3B3o65M (It links to my CV repo at Github, pinky promise. You can also visit github.com/<hnusername>.)

I'm not actively looking (hence why my resume link is obfuscated like that) but I'm at least interested in getting a feel for the market right now. That said, I'm willing to consider a position with a great fit for my skill set and career goals.

Here's my pitch: I have experience in a multitude of industries and positions. From improving legacy infra and processes in an established telco company to scaling a fast-moving startup from 200K to 2M users. In my free time, I love writing Code That Is Poetry but day-to-day I am not an idealist engineer who doesn't compromise. Well-engineered code is clean and correct but correct above all else.

Oh, also, I'm great at writing documentation. I consider myself introverted but apparently my communication skills are above average for Software Engineers. I also pride myself on my humility and modesty.

I'm currently a backend engineer developing features and improving infra for an online game with millions of daily active users. I'd love to explore other technical positions in the games industry short of joining a AAA studio because (a) I don't want to crunch and (b) my skill set does not lay that way; other tech-creative industries would also appeal to me! Another particular interest is in B2C businesses where the 'C' is software developers. I'd love to chat and network about opportunities; if you think you have a product that could benefit from my skill set, drop me a line!

I am an experienced software engineer with a career spanning over a decade in commercial software development as well as open source projects.

In the past few years I have worked on professional tax preparation software for TaxAct, real-time low latency video streaming systems, embedded linux, and I designed and implemented a commercial end-to-end encrypted cloud storage system for the EU market.

During my career, I have both contributed to and maintained open source projects, such as Arch Linux ARM where I maintained the Beaglebone Black platform for several years. I was also the maintainer of the OpenHD project, where I reorganized and modernized the development and release process, and as the lead developer I created a cross platform touchscreen drone controller called QOpenHD.

I have real world experience deploying applications on multiple embedded linux platforms, Mac and Windows systems programming (C, C++, and Rust), iOS/iPad and macOS application development (Obj-C, Obj-C++, Qt, Swift, Rust), and Windows desktop application development (C# .NET/WPF, Qt, Rust).

Contract, part-time employment, technical co-founder

Location: Africa or REMOTE

Remote: yes

Willing to relocate: yes, to any location in Africa, where I can get the necessary permission to live and work.

Technologies: Linux, Fullstack, System Administration.

Résumé/CV: on request (software development, CTO, mentoring, training, fluent in English and German)

Contact: Email: see profile or http://codingforafrica.at/

Like this Ask HN: Recommend employers with positive social impact [https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=31518945], I am looking for similar work. I am a European software developer who has lived and worked on four continents. Now it's time to move on and so I am in the process to relocate to Africa.

While I could find a job elsewhere I believe that the experience living in an area where my work is going to have an impact gives me a better understanding of the needs of the location I am serving. Whether it is through direct contact with clients and users or just by being part of a local community and learning about the reality of living there.

I have more than a decade of experience running a company, doing software development, support and training and mentoring adults and students, as well as working on educational projects, and I am willing to take on a mixture of roles as needed to support a project.

I am also open to work for a company anywhere as long as the work can be done fully remote from Africa.

In addition, I want to use part of my income to hire local interns and junior developers and train them in order to pass on my experience. If you want to support this, I would love to work with you. Also if you are interested in hiring African developers yourself. I can help you build up a team for you.

I'm a CTO, expert engineer, and data professional interested in team-building, consulting and architecting data pipelines. At Edmunds.com, I worked on a fairly successful ad-tech product and my team bootstrapped a data pipeline using Spark, Databricks, and microservices built with Java, Python, and Scala.

At ATTN:, I re-built an ETL Kubernetes stack, including data loaders and extractors that handle >10,000 API payload extractions daily. I created SOPs for managing data interoperability with Facebook Marketing, Facebook Graph, Instagram Graph, Google DFP, Salesforce, etc.

More recently, I was the CTO and co-founder of a gaming startup. We raised over $6M and I was in charge of building out a team of over a dozen remote engineers and designers, with a breadth of experience ranging from Citibank, to Goldman Sachs, to Microsoft. I moved on, but retain significant equity and a board seat.

I am also a minority owner of a coffee shop in northern Spain. That I'm a top-tier developer goes without saying. I'm interested in flexing my consulting muscle and can help with best practices, architecture, and hiring.

Would love to connect even if it's just for networking!

Hi! I'm a recently graduated UWaterloo CS alum with 1.5 years of experience in software development. My primary focus is web development, but I've worked in other areas of software as well, from internal tools for network management to back-end code for a Linux desktop application, so I'm very flexible in what kind of software I work on. I also have a strong interest in compilers/programming languages and would be interested in related roles.

I am an excellent collaborator and leader, which I honed through volunteer work in several university organizations, including being the executive director of a endowment fund which grants money to student orgs/projects and editing a beloved math student publication for almost two years.

I love learning new things. If I have experience with almost everything you're looking for, please feel free to reach out anyway; I will readily learn whatever might be needed.

You need a Technical Writer. You have developers that have trained extensively to talk to computers often in multiple languages. And it is hard enough to write documentation for other developers. Asking them to create documentation talking to users, system administrators, DevOps and management are even more dialects because they speak in their own jargon, and it costs a lot of their very expensive time. I know technology, hardware, software, firmware and more. In tech, medical, aerospace, automotive and IT industries. I can do the translating for developers so they can concentrate on making the hard stuff. I also know user experience (UX) I can guide you to make better user interfaces and keep you from making those mistakes that cripple many products.

Ex-FAANG. I've spent my recent career leading engineering teams of 10+ to ship world class products. Expertise in managing product timelines, overseeing architectural design/implementation, & keeping companies ahead of their competition. As an IC, I love to dig deep into technical problems, ship products with full autonomy/ownership, and make products look beautiful (see some old work at www.beaver.digital).

I have been getting wonderful offers from great companies but am still on the job market because I suffer from an unfortunate health condition that makes my sleep rather erratic. My working efficiency is still exceptional, energy levels are great, and my output is the best it’s ever been, but I sometimes start work as late as 10:30am pst which is unacceptable for most companies. Anyways, if this won’t be a problem for your team I’m happy to hear from you. I’ll be happy to make accommodations for you if you’re willing to make this one for me.

I'm excited to hear from you! :)

I have lots of front end infra/engineering effectiveness experience from my almost-5-year tenure working on LinkedIn.com, where I was the tech lead until a year ago. I built the Ember TypeScript team, got LinkedIn’s TS effort funded and was the tech expert for the effort—when other folks hit an area they couldn’t figure out how to write safe and accurate types for, they pinged me.

I also have significant experience with Rust education: I ran the New Rustacean podcast 2015–2019, and this summer I wrote a new chapter on async/await for the official Rust book (currently in revision!).

Looking for roles with a particular kind of impact on the world (https://v5.chriskrycho.com/journal/next/role/), but fairly wide open about the details—though I particularly love and excel at framework and API design, and open source leadership and ecosystem development. I also have a passion for, but am relatively new at, PL work.

As a bonus, I am a very good teacher, mentor, and public speaker; you can find a number of talks by me on YouTube, including most recently at StaffPlus New York (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkSGJdPyLxQ).

Technologist looking for new challenges. I have an unusual mix of technical and business skills. I currently work as the chief of staff to the CTO of a finance company, helping manage technology at the firm both from a leadership and from a project management perspecive. My background is in accounting (used to be an auditor, am still a CPA in Canada), transitioned into tech. I actually think management is really interesting as well and am interested in leading teams to success.

I am a mostly self taught developer, worked on projects at my current firm in python and a proprietary functional DSL. I have been working on a passion project for the last year or so in Go, Typescript and Swift (iOS app) both because I wanted this to exist and to learn how those technologies work. I've been building a personal knowledge management system, combining short-term tasks and long-term note storage in the zettelkasten style.

I'm looking for full-time, part-time or consulting work. I am open to anything from project management to straight technical positions. I excel at taking strategic goals and executing.

I'm looking for an ML engineering gig. I can help you gather data, preprocess it, design models, train models, etc etc. My ideal job would be doing generative AI stuff with images/audio/video, but I'm open to anywhere there's gradients to descend. Recently I've been working on a project building a text-to-image model that learns solely with unlabeled image data, relying on CLIP for the link between captions and images[1]. I think it's a) cool and b) demonstrative of strong abilities. At a higher level of abstraction you can think of this as embedding guided content synthesis. The model learns to generate images conditioned on their CLIP embedding being within an input spherical cap. If you center the cap on the CLIP embedding of some text you get images that look like they'd have that caption, if you center it on the embedding of another image you get semantically similar images. The radius of the cap determines how similar the outputs are.

I've been writing software (and designing UIs and user experiences) for about 15 years. My early career was design-heavy, and these days I largely focus on software.

I'd love to find work in environmental technologies, but my interests are very broad and deep; I'll enjoy working on many kinds of projects. I'm fascinated by all varieties of problems and love solving them with smart, skilled people I can learn from and support. Mentoring is a great role for me.

I'm probably not the typical resource someone may scour HN for, but it can't hurt to throw my hat in the ring!

I'm a senior-level IT Infrastructure Engineer. I've spent the past 8 or so years helping startups transform their early-stage IT, slapped together with duct tape and glue, into enterprise-grade scalable systems and processes. I've seen startups through numerous SOCII and ISO 27001 audits, penetration tests, NIST 800-171 assessments, and FINRA audits. I've migrated on-premises workloads in the cloud, built a businesses entire IT infrastructure (office networking gear excluded) to the cloud. I've even worked hand-in-hand with DevOps teams to improve and troubleshoot CI, engineering access to backend services, and IAM architecture. And I loved every minute of it.

That's why I'm posting here on HN; I like a fast-paced environment where I can re-imagine how things are done!

My linked resume is for leadership, as I've recently made that shift, but nearly my whole career is as an IC and my accomplishments in my resume are overwhelmingly accomplished as an IC or small team lead. I'm happy to be an IC again for the right opportunity.

Computers are an incredibly powerful tool, and I am always looking for ways to help others take advantage of that power. To that end, I have worked on projects ranging from configuration management (with a focus on deep integration with Linux and commercial Unix platforms) to blockchain (focusing on real-world assets and actual applications for the technology).

My main technical skills are in systems/lower-level programming. I enjoy the challenge of making complex functionality work in a performance-constrained environment. But I also know that code doesn't live in a vacuum, and I care a lot about making sure what I'm building actually solves problems for the business and the customer. I am always looking for opportunities to work more closely with stakeholders to ensure me and my team are on the right track.

I have lots of experience supporting interns and junior engineers, and always love opportunities to be a teacher or mentor. Looking for someone to help your team level up on Rust? I could be who you're searching for!

I've been programming for nearly two decades and have a lot of experience in various technologies. Lately I've been learning game development in Elixir - a very weird task.

I think that's where my value is, though. I love working on weird, unknown projects. Basically everyone I talked to in the Elixir community about game development said it was a waste of time, but I've been showing that it's not only possible, it's quite nice!

I'm always looking for interesting and challenging problems. My wide range of experience (both with and without computers) helps me figure out tasks that don't have prior art. I'm very capable when it comes to R&D type projects.

Honestly, if you just need someone to churn out CRUD apps, you probably don't want to hire me. But if you have some weird ideas that you don't have someone on your team to figure out, I'm your man.

Hi, I'm Jonathan. I am a Principal/Senior Software Engineer with high impact projects in backend, embedded and UI.

I have worked as a team lead in a small startup-like environment at VIZIO building embedded features in Python, Django and C++ and deploying my code to tens of millions of consumer televisions. Pay rate is not a concern but it is important to me to be a helpful coworker and to also work with those who are positive and enjoy what they do. Our industry has been gaining a bad reputation but I know there are fantastic and friendly people out there - I've worked with some of them, and I strive to role model their behavior.

I am a data engineer / full stack dev / bioinformatician, with a number of turns in my career so far. After graduating from a prestigious university and landing a high earning job in 2014, I left it in 2016 for a role in a research institute, and then worked in life sciences and did contract work on the side, until in 2022 AI became big and I joined a healthcare start-up. The start-up was a fine gamble but did not really work out so since April this year I'm temporarily hacking on a non-commercial project on the side to being a dad, and looking for more opportunities to do worthwhile work.

I am good at turning prototypes into products, and orienting myself in novel domains.

Over the years I was able to do plenty of meaningful work, in academic, commercial, and non-profit contexts, and I would quite like to continue. If my profile - the CV or one of the technologies listed - is a match for you, do send me an email!

For the past year and a half, my passion project has been developing a comprehensive Python framework designed for building modular, asynchronous, and event-driven LLM applications. It features a component-based architecture encompassing state and context management, AI-composable workflows, and code parsing and analysis. The goal is to create an intelligent system with a persistent context/memory layer built dynamically via search while providing a natural-language interface for workflow composition. I'm eager to explore AI engineering opportunities that align with this trajectory.

I'm a builder, and I'm getting bored with contract work. Time to get back in the game and make something bigger. I've been around long enough to know that good people can make great things in any stack if they're inspired.

I want to work on something that makes the world better; with smart, professional, committed teammates; and passionate, energized leadership; not too far from the customer.

I offer creative problem-solving; excellence in communication; commitment to the software; wide experience; and good people skills. Oh yeah, and I can hack, obviously.

---

I would love to find a great team that's putting serious wood behind the arrow and wants a technology leader now, or as they grow. I've done a lot of "software architecture" but I still love to code, and do it every day. Startups welcome, I'm solving for impact first!

Resume/CV: https://consteval.ca/files/evan-resume.pdf

Hello, I'm Evan! I'm a recent Waterloo CS + pure math grad. I have a lot of expertise in C++ (like, standard-reading, type-checker-writing expertise), but I'm very capable with other strongly-typed languages like Rust, as well as web technologies and functional-first languages. I'm interested in roles in the spheres of programming languages/compilers, graphics/game development, front-end/UI/UX, or any mix of those.

For the past few years I've led a Portal-adjacent video game project (see my resume!) with a team of over 20 really talented volunteers (I've worn a lot of different hats in this role, largely art-related). I also have experience on the technical side of graphics: last year I wrote my own metallic/roughness PBR software renderer :) Finally, I've designed and built a few websites, all with different tech stacks but all with an emphasis on tightness and punchiness.

I have a strong emphasis on quality; I love to make really sturdy things that feel good to use and have a lot of love baked in. If that's the sort of thing you're into, please reach out! I'm a fast learner and I'll happily pick up anything new.

Location: Menlo Park, CA

Remote: Yes

Willing to relocate: No

Technologies: Many languages, high level and low level, especially geography and designing APIs.

Résumé/CV: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelgeary/

Email: mike@geary.com

My focus is solving the problems of my customers and my fellow developers, and teaching my colleagues with documentation and our interactions. And learning from them too.

Sometimes I've designed and developed APIs. The key to a great API is to start with the apps.

You can't start with the idea of "exposing the workings of our system." An API is useless on its own. Its value is only in the apps you can create with it.

So you start by building some apps. You may not have the API you need yet, but imagine the API you would love to use as you go along, Build some apps with this imaginary API, and then you will know the API you need to implement.

What else gets me excited? Geography. And teaching.

For several years I built election results and voter information maps for Google.

This was very cool, because I got to run the whole project, back end and front end and everything, to deliver maps that millions of people viewed and interacted with.

Later I worked on an interactive Earth globe teaching application called Stratalogica.

My contribution there was building tools for students to mark up the globe to do their projects. This was more fun than anyone should be allowed to have!

Currently a non-founding CTO of a reasonably sized European game startup, I’ve proved my mettle as a leader but due to being let down too many times by the co-founders I’m hoping to go back to more technology and less covering their failures.

As a lead, I manage with a servant leader mindset, where I prioritise transparency and accountability.

I am open to being an independent contributor again, and in that role I typically enjoy owning an area of responsibility rather than focusing on a steady flow of tasks.

I’ve proved myself many times over within various teams at varying levels of responsibility; I’ve mentored people and gone extremely deep on technical topics on request.

I’m not perfect though, as an IC I have been told that I am too direct with my needs; though this has not been a problem as a lead for some reason (it was something I was concerned about so I have asked our executive assistants to be on the lookout for people complaining about my communication style so I can improve).

I'm a software engineering manager with a bottom-up, collaborative style, focused on building and supporting resilient, empathetic, business-aware engineering teams who love what they do. I've worked in software since ~2011 and have worked with many tech stacks during that time- from PHP to Scala and Next.js to Rails. I've been fully remote since 2016 and have hired and managed globally remote team members at multiple companies.

While I've spent the majority of my career in venture-funded b2b SaaS, my goal now is to work at a company that's not venture-funded and whose product or service supports or interacts with the physical world in some way. Lawn maintenance crew payroll software, or industry-specific ERPs would be a couple of great examples of this.

My approach centers on 1:1s, transparent retros, and fostering a deep understanding of the business purpose behind the work we do. If this sounds like the type of culture that you have or wish to build, I'd love to hear from you and learn how I can support your mission and the team helping you accomplish it.

Hey, I'm Nathan from Greenville, SC. I got laid off the day before labor day weekend and have been struggling to get interviews since due to having only 3 years of experience. I got to the final round of one company but they didn't move forwards after I didn't recognize a pattern on a LC hard quickly enough.

I have a background in innovation from school, clubs, and hackathons. I have about 6 months of team lead experience from my previous company and my managers said I was ready for a senior position, but I don't need it. I fell in love with the startup space at my previous company and would love to continue down the startup route

Hey, I'm David from southern germany. I have a phd in computer science from the institute of distributed systems in Ulm, Germany. I currently work for the development department of a US startup in Heidelberg. My role is backend platform developer. I build tooling and components for our platform, so our other developers can build the great ERP of the future on top.

I am primaraly a backend engineer with some frontend experience and slight ambitions towards leadership in the future. I enjoy mentoring, discussing (and solving) technical problems in new and existing systems. I speak german (natively) and english, but I like to dabble in other languages, so I speak miniscule amounts of Korean, Spanish, French and Mandarin.

I am currently looking into moving around munich for family reasons, but I am generally open for other great opportunities. :)

SEEKING WORK | Laravel / PHP and React / Vue

Remote: Yes

Location: UK (Flexible on your timezone)

Relocation: No

Languages\Tech:

* PHP + Laravel + PHPUnit/Pest

* Javascript

* Typescript

* Python

Backend: Laravel, Node

Frontend: React , Vue , Livewire

Email: PTGPSoftware@outlook.com

Very competitive pricing available for fast turnaround PHP / JS or Node projects. If you are looking to develop a new project, clean up/refactor an existing one or something else/different then please get in touch. Just as happy to work on legacy/vanilla PHP applications as Laravel apps, or to port from one to the other (or give opinions on feasibility of that for your project).

I like to work in a methodical way, typically writing simple tests for new functionality as I go, and also isolating any bugs/likely bug surface area. At the same time I also get satisfaction from "shipping". So it's important to me to achieve a harmonious balance between these, so expect this to be an area of focus in terms of communication. My technical interests are anything from simple CRUD/REST APIs through to integration of more advanced features, which could be real time application (Pusher/Websocket, possibly Reverb when this is released) or integration with ML models and pipelines.

14 years of experience in startup software development and DevOps across web apps, cloud, and Linux networking. Six years of leadership in teams of up to 7 people.

Looking for an engineering manager or senior IC position to mentor your team and make something people want.

Here are a sample of things I've accomplished:

* I built a platform for hosting web applications using Kubernetes at a major cloud provider and taught engineers to operate and improve it. It uses Helm to manage the instances of the single-tenant app and includes a Python application to manage the customer instances based on configuration from the subscription management vendor.

* I trained and mentored a team of developers in software patterns, communication, and prioritizing work, and I reduced context switching in the team’s workflows, leading to a 72% increase in velocity in two months.

* I maintain the community Apt package for Helm, the Kubernetes package manager, which is downloaded more than 200,000 times per month.

* I improved performance of a proprietary VPN by adopting Cython, permitting use of C functions in Python, resulting in a 2.5x increase in network throughput when limited by CPU

* I created a system to control calls in Asterisk with AI-trained voice commands ("hey asterisk, dial extension 1") https://github.com/mattfox/asterisk-voice-control

* Currently leading a B2B SaaS company through getting a SOC 2 Type II report

(Contract only)

Experienced (10+ yrs) full stack product engineer. Very good at both web & mobile & desktop apps, APIs, Postgres, Linux, mentorship, and communication in general. Touch typist, VIM ninja, refactoring monster. With an academic background of philosophy.

Been developing a lot of different projects for different teams, company types (startups, scale-ups, enterprise) and industries (fintech, adtech, edtech, e-commerce, BI).

My technical specialty is building simple systems with few moving parts that contain as little accidental complexity as possible. I'm pragmatic but always chase proper implementations at the same time. I don’t easily buy the hype nor subscribe to every new shiny tool & paradigm. I focus on robust & reliable software as much as possible.

My business specialty is caring greatly about understanding your domain, business model, figuring out your product priorities and actually iterating fast. In a world where the majority of software projects fail and the majority of engineering hires disappoint, I am promising you the peace of mind of knowing that you have an actually capable engineer beside you who understands your business model, cares about your investment and is able to make good judgements.

Always looking for interesting & challenging projects and smart people.

Feel free to contact if you don't have the luxury of failure.

I'd like to contribute as a product manager, or take on any other role where I can leverage my zero to one skill set and founder experience. I'd be a good partner for a non-technical person who is building a venture on their own and wants a solid ally by their side.

I also maintain a bunch of open source projects and am part of Docker's Docker Captains program for the last ~8 years.

I'm looking to work full time and overall enjoy solving problems.

jesse__ 19 hours ago

Location: NA timezones (Canada <--> Central America)

Remote only: 11 years experience, 8 Remote

Technologies : C, C++, SIMD, OpenGL, WebGL, WASM, JS, TS

Interests : compilers, language runtimes, 2D & 3D graphics, performance

Hello, my name is Jesse.

I'd describe myself as a competent generalist; a lifelong learner. I'm pretty much always working on something I've never done before in the context of one of a handful of long-running side-projects I have.

My most recent professional experience has been about a year at a semiconductor startup where I wrote a functional simulator and a compiler.

One of my side-projects of ~8 years is a 3D game engine. Working on it has taught me a great deal about systems and graphics programming. It runs on Windows, Linux and Web (WASM/WebGL). I chose to build it without any libraries (barring the CRT for startup), which began as a learning exercise, but has taught me the value of simplicity.

In more recent history I've been working on a metaprogramming system for C. Think C++ templates/constexpr, but somewhat more flexible, and with intelligible error messages. It turns out I have a small passion for compilers. I was also recently contributing to Oil, a new bash runtime and POSIX compliant shell.

That's the cliff-notes on my technical background. As a person I'm friendly and easy to get along with. I like the phrase "Have strong opinions, weakly held". Outside of work I enjoy surfing, backcountry skiing, snowmobiling, rock-climbing and beer! I split my time between Canada, Costa Rica, and Mexico.

Cheers,

Jesse

SEEKING WORK - remote, email in profile.

Location: West coast, remote only.

Technologies/techniques: Machine learning/AI, LLM's/RAG/KB's, Transformers, GenAI, MCMC, MCTS, Bayesnets, Neural architecture search, Python, Pytorch/Tensorflow/Keras, All the tools surrounding ML and AI, A whole host of others.

I'm a data scientist who's worked with companies you know. I'm looking for the next project. I just lost a large project with an airline to a large consulting shop, so I'm available right away.

The project was network scheduling during cascading failures in airline routes. A pilot calls in sick, or a plane has an unrepairable fault. How does the airline reschedule crews/planes to keep the maximum number of flights/passengers satisfied, taking into account cascade effects. Involves some deep ML, and some really trick optimization methods.

I've worked on other projects including large language models, knowledge extraction, and the usual ML stuff - failure prediction, translation, maintenance optimization, automated sports highlights, and more. I've also done some more interesting work including vehicle route planning in constrained environments.

The perfect fit is a small/medium sized company with a hair on fire green or brownfield problem that needs solving.

I'm available immediately, and champing at the bit before boredom sets in. Email in profile.

About: Making software for 35+ years.. Seen quite some things and places.. and attitudes. Been all, bottom to top, wearing many hats, always hands-on. Have my own python course, coding style, some open-sourced stuff, and even opinions on things.

i am looking for Mentoring a team - can be newbies - as a playing trainer, within the team and the project/work. Or advising, on organisational levels, how to do things better. But may also be a Principal or Staff or Master engineer, Architect, CTO, co-founder.. Anyway will still code things.. But no politics.

IMO The interesting part of making software, is the people, while technicals.. are solvable. i can guide people how to _think_ _correctly_. While building something good, together. And by good, i mean useful.. and not harmful to anyone.

Probably i will ruin quite some illusions.. because in software making, what's doable, sellable, wanted, and needed, rarely overlap.. But when they do, the dream comes true. Let's find it..

May relocate anywhere to stay with the team, as IMO "remote" does not work for any knowledge-or-culture -building activities.

Have fun

I've been programming for 30+ years, starting as a kid. Currently a technical product management director at a large public company, but looking to move to a individual contributor role at a small-ish company (between 40-200 employees). Prefer part-time.

I've worked at every level: launching a startup from scratch, bringing up new hardware boards, writing firmware, full stack web development, and building PaaS.

I operate with very high autonomy: you can point me an ambiguous project, tell me the speed/quality tradeoff you want (e.g. rapid PoC or production-grade deployment) and I will figure out who to work with, what needs to be done to get all the way into production, and then actually do it.

The ideal role would allow me to do actual work, meaning either heads-down development or working sessions with other engineers, at least 90% of the time.

I'm an engineer with many years of experience in Silicon Valley, working in management roles, engineering, and consulting. My expertise is mostly in back end systems, working in the modern Go/Docker/Kubernetes ecosystem. In addition to working directly on large and complex code projects I also managed and grew engineering teams at various companies.

If you need help with specific technical projects, or are looking for management roles please feel free to reach out. I'm very familiar with both the unique challenges of scaling up startups as well as working to innovate in large enterprise companies.

Specifically if you need help productizing and scaling out various AI/Machine Learning/LLM systems this would be a good fit. I know there is quite a bit of demand in this area and a limited supply of qualified candidates.

Hey-hey

I’m currently looking for my next opportunity as a web developer / frontend engineer.

I have 2 years of experience as a web developer at a fintech startup, combined with 7 years in marketing across startups and larger companies. This has given me a good mix of technical and creative skills.

I work with ReactJS and NextJS, love CSS, and have a good relationship with Figma. I also know how to use Google Analytics, organize A/B tests, and handle other marketing tasks. Additionally, I understand what is needed to make a web app both user-friendly and SEO-friendly, and I prioritize accessibility.

I am a team player (you can check recommendations from colleagues on LinkedIn) and would be happy to collaborate with various teams.

I’ve also built numerous side projects, which you can check out here: https://kaplich.me

If you or someone in your network is looking for a frontend developer who can bring creativity and technical expertise, I’d love to connect, collaborate, and create something awesome.

Feel free to share this post or reach out directly! Let’s build something awesome together

I have about 5 years of professional experience, mostly in web application space as a front-end dev or varying level of SWE. I've also been a CTO/Co-Founder of a document-signing on video company. I tinker with hardware too, would like to go that route. I do not have a degree. I started to learn how to code in 2013 back in the LAMP days.

Oh yeah as far as what I've been doing the last 9 months, been working labor. I was making hardware projects but lately just working labor all the time.

Most recently I have worked on an iPhone app paired to a watch for a client.

I'm currently focusing on mobile with React Native - I can build your app AND lead and mentor your team, too! If you need just plain React, I can do that, too!

What separates me from the competition is I bring a warm, friendly, and holistic approach to enterprise software design. I'm incredibly easy to talk to and gentle in whatever I do.

My job is to make your problems go away - let's chat! =D

Available for Principal Unity UI-based App/Game Development, Gaming Backends, and UI/UX Design Opportunities – One-Man Army from Concept to Launch

I’m currently available for on-site/remote roles worldwide, as well as remote opportunities in Unity UI (uGUI, UI Toolkit) based App/Game Development, including gaming backends and UI/UX design. As a one-man army, I have a proven track record of taking projects from concept to launch across desktop, mobile, and web.

Here’s a summary of what I’ve been working on over the past 5 years: www.linkedin.com/posts/manofspirit_opentowork-activity-7237722209241214977-U3ZG

As a versatile designer and developer, I’ve created UI-based 2D games and applications with multiplayer features, ranging from XR-based Metaverse app WeDream to the NASBA-accredited educational app Earmark CPE, to Scrabble-inspired UGC-based Word Game, and even Ludo and Bonza-inspired puzzle games across various platforms.

Starting with GameSparks (RIP) in 2014, I’ve since worked with BrainCloud, PlayFab with Azure Scripting, Epic Online Services, and most recently started exploring Xsolla Backend (AcceleratXR). I’ve built fully integrated BAAS games and apps that often include async multiplayer, user-generated content (UGC), social integration (friends, messaging, etc.), tournaments, achievements, leaderboards, and monetization strategies (in-app purchases, subscriptions, virtual currencies, sales, ad mediation, etc.). Additionally, I’ve developed Unity-based admin tools for seamless management of users, content, and reporting.

On the UI/UX side, I started with Adobe Photoshop 8 and CorelDraw 9 almost 20 years ago; today I design beautiful applications and 2D games while utilizing my development skills to automate design tools for bulk art generation, variations, and solving repetitive tasks. I also leverage AI tools like MidJourney to push beyond creative limits.

Even though my focus is on the design and development of backend-driven Unity-based apps/games, my diverse skill set and ability to wear multiple hats allow me to seamlessly contribute to every stage of a project—from initial concept and UX design to backend integration, multiplayer systems, and final launch. This versatility enables me to adapt to different roles and challenges, delivering comprehensive solutions that align with the project’s goals.

If you have any openings that align with these diverse skills, I’d love to connect and explore how I can contribute.
